Can pets use natural skincare? Care tips and recommendations

More and more, we want to care for our pets with natural products, but it’s important to know that not all ingredients are safe for them.

While natural skincare can be an excellent option for dogs, cats, and other animals’ skin and coat care, some essential oils and components can be toxic. For example, lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, and clove essential oils may cause adverse reactions in dogs and cats.

So, what can we safely use to care for our “fur babies”?

Coconut oil: Moisturizes skin and coat, helps combat dryness, and is safe in small amounts.

Colloidal oatmeal: Soothes irritated or sensitive skin.

Aloe vera (without additives): Helps relieve mild irritations and promotes hydration.

Jojoba oil: Similar to natural sebum, ideal for dry or damaged skin.

Natural shampoos free from fragrances and harsh chemicals: Especially formulated for pets.

Never apply pure essential oils directly to your pet’s skin or coat without veterinary advice, and avoid products with artificial fragrances or alcohol. We use the oatmeal and calendula soap to wash Blanca.

In short, natural skincare for pets can be very beneficial when safe, pet-specific ingredients are used. Our pets’ health and well-being come first, and nature can be a great ally if used wisely and carefully.
